Eye on the Sky Vol. 3 – Saturday September 9, 2023

This month’s new moon happens on Friday, September 15. This means it will be the darkest that the night sky can be. When it is that dark, you might be able to see faint objects like galaxies or the nebulosity of the Milky Way! There is a lot of light pollution around big cities though, and that makes it hard to see. So, if you live close to town, it might be pretty boring. The good news is, you don’t have to drive far in San Diego County to get some really dark skies. The picture above was taken at Anza-Borrego State Park! That’s only about an hour away from HEC El Cajon, but you can go half that distance on a clear night and get absolutely breathtaking views! The sun will set at 6:55pm on Friday. Our family will be in Julian picking apples and praying for clear skies so we can see M31 – The Andromeda Galaxy! We’ll also be listening to “Starman” by David Bowie on repeat. 🤞🏻

Geek out,
Miss. Andrea
